The Librarian: Quest for the Spear
Jul. 2nd, 2011 11:05 pmA friend pointed this film out to me and it just had to be rented - I think it's only the second time I've put something on high priority on my LoveFilm list.
Anyway, The Librarian: Quest for the Spear is very much a cross between Indiana Jones and Warehouse 13, and pitched at about the same level of silliness. There were rickety bridges, death-defying parachute jumps, really quite dreadfully choreographed fights, glowy pillars of life-and-death energy, evil men with snake tattoos, floating swords, peppy banter - and Noah Wyle, bimbling through it all as the rather appealing Librarian, who has 22 degrees but no real world experience.
The effects were cheap and cheerful, the plot was utter nonsense, and some of the acting was less than stellar - but it managed to hold everything together with a refreshing exuberance that I think has been missing from recent blockbusters. A fun afternoon's viewing.
