Anita Blake - Reprise
Jun. 2nd, 2006 11:21 pmI'm about to start Book 4 in the Anita Blake series.
The horror and romance aspects have increased since Book 1, leaving the mystery aspect slightly diminished. The pacing is a little irritating as well, since the set-up tends to take three quarters of the book and then suddenly there's a climax and everything gets sorted out in a very short space of time. They also have a habit of repeating themselves a lot - I realise this is an attempt to make each book stand-alone, but it annoys me.
However, I still like the protagonist (especially her collection of stuffed penguins), the peripheral characters all have depth, and their inter-relationships are engaging.
Plus, there's the fact that I can't seem to stop reading the damn things. I only have three more to go in my current collection - I feel another trip to Amazon coming on...
