The Magnetic Lady review

You know you're watching a Restoration comedy when a character turns up whose name is Sir Diaphanous Silkworm. This evening's rendition of Ben Jonson's The Magnetic Lady was excellent, as we have come to expect from the tiny White Bear Theatre. The company numbered fifteen and the audience numbered twenty-five, which made the experience all the better, since it was so intimate. The costumes were 1930s, but the dialogue remained unchanged, which made for an odd visual/audio conflict, but didn't detract from the mostly excellent acting and the very entertaining script. One of the minor actors wasn't really up to scratch, and the lead did keep tripping over his lines as he tried to get them out too fast, but overall it was highly enjoyable. Definitely a recommended venue.
