alobearI picked up The Bricklayer by Noah Boyd in Smiths when it was "buy one, get one for £1".
To be read in an over-the-top movie trailer voice:
Steve Vail is a maverick ex-FBI agent, fired three years ago for insubordination. Now, the FBI wants him back for one last case, since he's the only man clever enough to see through the bad guys' dastardly plan! Other agents fall over their own feet, while it's sexy Assistant Deputy Director Kate Bannon, and striking Assistant US Attorney Tye Delson who are falling at Steve's feet. Shot, blown up, and nearly crushed by two tons of steel, Steve reacts by throwing his pain pill prescription in the trash, and goes on to solve the crime single-handed when the rest of the FBI has declared the case closed.
Oh, and his middle name is Noah (see author's name above)...
