Book three in David Weber's Safehold series, and my interest is starting to wane just ever so slightly.  It took me a while to get into this one, and I skipped over the sea battle scenes.  I also found it harder to keep track of who was who (many, many characters with similar names, lots of different factions and powers), particularly considering the plot didn't spend much time with the characters I knew best.  And, perhaps because they were more prevalent, or more likely because the narrative wasn't as engaging - but Weber's few annoying stylistic issues jumped out at me a lot more.  He's very fond of subordinate clauses, his in depth explorations of what's going on in his characters' heads tend to get a bit wearing (and very repetitive) and seemingly every other page someone "grimaces" or "their lips twitch but then their expression sobers again".

Aside from all of the above, it's still an excellent series overall.  The plot is mostly intriguing, the characters are largely likeable or interesting, the way it all fits together is incredibly impressive, and I still care about what happens next.  This wasn't a conclusion - far from it - so I'll be expecting another chunky hardback some time soon.  I'm just glad to be taking an enforced break from Safehold while I wait for it to be published.
