North by Northwest Review

The latest classic movie to arrive in the post via my DVD rental account was North By Northwest.



And it was a bit crap, really.

The whole series of events was utterly ridiculous, the protagonist was obnoxious, there was no real suspense maintained, and it was way too long.

Hitchcock is going down in my estimation.

I absolutely loved this film as a child, although I've not seen it since I was about 15. I got it on DVD a while back but haven't watched it yet - maybe I should avoid it and just stick with the rose-coloured spectacles ;)

It's always dangerous revisiting films you loved as a child. I'm going to do that when The Ten Commandments comes out on DVD soon - for some reason I was absolutely obsessed with that when I was younger...

I don't know what to suggest in this case, as I seem to be in a minority about North by Northwest, since it crops up on Best Films Of All Time lists all over the place.

It just isn't my kind of thing - but I'm sure other people would be able to defend it adequately.
