Inside Man review
Apr. 9th, 2006 07:58 pmVery cool cinema trip with Lindsay to see Inside Man today.
This was not the film I was expecting, which was pretty much a good thing. I don't think I've ever seen a Spike Lee film before, but somehow I expected it to be gritty and depressing. It was actually very silly, but also quite clever.
I had seen everything in it before in various other films and TV shows, but never all in one place and never done as well.
The script was very good with several very funny moments and the cast were excellent. Clive Owen has his limitations, but he does cool and calculating pretty well, and it was nice to see Denzel Washington having light moments. I liked Jodie Foster's character most, because she added an interesting dimension to what was essentially a very cliched plot.
I also particularly appreciated the structure, which meant we knew right from the beginning where it was going to end up, but we didn't know how. I like it when films do this, because I don't have to worry about what's going to happen and I can just enjoy the way it unfolds.
Standard fare brought up several levels by good writing and a good cast. Definitely the right film for an enjoyable Sunday afternoon.
