A guest review has come in from an eminent personage, and I quote it here in full.

I shall go and see The Blind Side myself when it goes on general release towards the end of the month, and we'll see if I agree...!

"The Blind Side" is a very entertaining film with much to recommend it
to a wide range of film goer.  Sandra Bullock won an Oscar for her
excellent performance as Mrs Tuohy who takes pity on a homeless black
boy, takes him into her home and treats him as a son.  The boy is
massive and has huge potential in sports.  Mrs Tuohy's love and drive
ensure that her Michael (everybody else calls him Big Mike) goes all
the way to pro ball.

Mrs Tuohy is a dream part because she is some lady.  I doubt that the
original - the film is based on a true story - was as attractive as
Sandra Bullock but I am sure she possessed many of the qualities which
are to the fore in the film.  She is compassionate,
determined, assertive and knows how to get things done.  Sandra Bullock
is supported by good performances from most of the cast.  I
particularly enjoyed the portrayal of her young son SJ who loves
having a very big brother and who helps to teach said giant the finer
points of American football.  There is a lovely sequence where the
little chap, complete with clipboard almost as big as himself,
supervises Michael's training.  Later, when the college coaches come a
calling for Michael's signature SJ sits in on all of the negotiations
and ensures that there is always something in any deal for him.

There is a lot of realism about the film though the treatment of the
facts is bound to have been "Hollywoodised" to an extent.  However,
neither my companion nor I found it over sentimental.  Michael's first
school football game goes on rather too long but otherwise I found
that the two hours went by rapidly.  A feelgood movie with substance
and some very amusing moments.  Highly recommended.
