Daybreakers review
Jan. 12th, 2010 09:20 pmMy plan for this year is to go to the cinema more - and not use potential violence in a film as a reason not to go and see it.
My first test case was Daybreakers - and sadly there were plenty of other reasons besides violence not to see it!
That's a little unfair - I actually quite enjoyed it for the most part, though it definitely didn't live up to its interesting premise, and it was annoying that it devolved into random dismemberment and general unpleasantness towards the end. I do like Ethan Hawke and Sam Neill, and Willem Dafoe was good as the first vamp-turned-human.
Dave's response was rather more vitriolic - he declared it the worst film he's seen in years, and actually asked if we could leave about ten minutes before the end. I didn't care enough about it to be that annoyed, but I do think it could have been a lot better with more intelligent handling.
Still, I survived the gore, which was partially the point of going! The funniest moment, though, was right at the start when a bat flew across the screen in the first shot, and I yelped and nearly jumped out of my seat. I think I still have a long way to go with my aversion therapy. Pathetic, moi? It's my middle name, dontcha know! Just call me Pat for short...
