My entertainment of choice at the gym in recent months has been the audio version of Mystic and Rider by Sharon Shinn.  It took me a while to get used to the narrator, whose voice grated a little at first.  It also wasn't as compelling as I remember from when I read the text version, but I think that may be in comparison to the rest of the series, which gets better as it goes along.  Mystic and Rider has the burden of initial exposition and character development - it's very much an establishing book, setting out the world and the six protagonists, and introducing several plot themes that are explored in a lot more detail in the three books that follow.  It also has the problem that the romance aspect focuses on the two least interesting of the main characters, and it set up in rather an abrupt fashion in amongst all the other information.

However, it's still a good book, and it has got me through many sessions at the gym.
