Last few 2008 reviews

alobearTo complete the 2008 reviews before I round up the stats for the year:
Inkheart - went to the cinema to see this the other day and really enjoyed it. Paul Bettany is always worth watching and, as usual, was the best thing in this film. However, the rest of it was good fun, too.
Next few books by Mercedes Lackey:
The White Gryphon - fairly involving political thriller where the heroes have to try and negotiate an alliance with a neighbouring empire while also investigating a series of murders in the foreign court, which are staged to make them the prime suspects.
The Silver Gryphon - standard tale of young rangers sent out into the wilderness on their first solo mission, only to be attacked and stranded in said wilderness, leaving them injured and forced to survive in difficult and dangerous conditions until rescued.
Magic's Pawn, Magic's Promise, Magic's Price - the trilogy that tells the tragic tale of Herald-Mage Vanyel, who suffers a neglected childhood, loses his one true love at the age of sixteen, had to take on the lonely responsibilities of the whole kingdom when the king falls gravely ill, and eventually gives his life for his country to protect it from invasion by an evil sorceror. Emo to the extreme, and wonderfully self-indulgent to revisit.
