After an excellent afternoon at Olympia with mum and Dave, and an even more excellent dinner at a Turkish restaurant with the addition of David, I persuaded mum to make the trip to Leicester Square to see Twilight with me.

The outing started out really well, with me presenting my Empire Movie Club membership card and getting not one but *both* tickets for free!! (Note to self - must go to Vue cinema in Finchley more often if they want to let me in for free - I wonder how many people I can include in my party...)

Twilight - worst book I've read in some time, best movie I've seen in some time - which was interesting, considering the movie was basically page for page an exact replication of the book! I guess I went in with low expectations, and I know I found it a lot funnier than it was meant to be, but I really, really enjoyed it overall. I think it benefitted from not having the nauseatingly repetitive declarations of Edward's beauty that clogged up the narrative in the book and, despite the fact that the white make-up they slathered all over the vampires made them look really weird, the majority of the performances were pretty good. It was still ridiculously over the top and unintentionally hilarious in places, but my favourite characters were well portrayed, and it moved along at a reasonable pace. As I had read elsewhere, though, the "vampire sparkle" was a huge disappointment, and I have no idea what kind of stylist thought what they did to Edward's hair would make him attractive.

If you're in the mood to check your brain at the door, wallow in a bit of teenage melodrama, and giggle at the absurdity of it all, this comes highly recommended as a good use of a couple of hours in the holiday season.

Can't wait to hear what corone, lareinemisere, and nezumi_sama thought of it...! :o)
