Just A Geek review
Aug. 15th, 2008 09:11 pmI should probably wait until I've calmed down a little bit before writing this review - but what the hey...
Just A Geek by Wil Wheaton is by far my favourite of the books I've read so far this year. He takes a selection of early posts from his blog and connects them together with insightful discussions of what was going on in his life at the time, how some of the entries weren't perhaps entirely honest, and tracks the changes in his attitude to life that took place over those months.
First of all, he's an excellent writer and I enjoy reading what goes on in his head. Besides that, I really respect how he can look back on a bad period in his life and view it with unflinching honesty (words featured in the subtitle of the book), and I find self-exploration and improvement really interesting as I've done a great deal of it myself.
So, having finished the book in a couple of hours, I felt compelled to email Wil and let him know how much I enjoyed the book, and how pleased I was to have discovered his writing, as I had always been a fan.
I was kind of expecting him to write back - eventually - as he just seems like that kind of guy, but I'd figured it would take a while. So, imagine my crazy fangirl excitement at getting an email back from my first celebrity crush - the same day.
Wil Wheaton - coolest person ever.
