Last reviews of the year
Just for the sake of completeness, I shall record that the last few days have been pleasureably spent in finishing Mansfield Park and re-reading Sense and Sensibility (just in time for the BBC adaptation tomorrow) - both always good.
I found Shadow In The North disappointing, not because it was badly written or badly acted, because it was neither, but because it plumped for the godawful "Cold Mountain" ending, which I have always, always hated. Of course it doesn't matter that the love of the herione's life is horribly killed just after they decide to be together! After all, in nine months, she'll have a screaming child to stop her being lonely and grief-stricken, so all is well! Grrr...
