Last Confession and Lord or Emperors review

Went to the theatre last night to see The Last Confession - thanks for the free tickets, [personal profile] corone !

It was excellent - fantastic cast, great writing, intriguing subject matter, and I really had to pay attention to catch all the details.  Highly recommended.

Lord of Emperors completes the Sarantine Mosaic by Guy Gavriel Kay - Dave, you may not want to read this before you read the book!

It has a very different feel to the first book - it's much more fragmented and it doesn't all fit together to make an intricate picture.  I think that's entirely deliberate, as the first book is about creation and the second book is about destruction, so it's a lot messier and there are a fair few unpleasant things that happen.  It's still really good, and it ends on a note of renewal, suggesting that things can be rebuilt, but I didn't enjoy it as much as the first one, and I wasn't overly satisfied with the end of some of the plot lines.
