The Day The Earth Caught Fire is an interesting film in terms of presentation and plotting. In some respects, there isn't an awful lot that actually happens, and none of it can be sorted out by the protagonists, who are stuck reporting the situation rather than doing anything about it. However, it still manages to be absorbing and intriguing - though the only characters who don't sound like they're reading from an autocue are the female lead and the science reporter.
