I really like Jared Diamond. He may have a silly name, which makes him sound more like a porn star than an anthropologist, but he managed to make soil erosion interesting in Collapse, and that give him points in my book.

So, I decided to visit his back catalogue and discovered "Why Is Sex Fun? The Evolution of Human Sexuality". Diamond brings his easy, conversational style to this already quite fascinating subject, and creates a very entertaining little book (it certainly didn't take as long to read as Collapse). Not only does he regale the reader with descriptions of the very strange sexual habits of various wild animals, but he also bring a fresh attitude to looking at human sexuality and why we have evolved as we have. The best thing about the book is that he doesn't preach his ideas - in fact, he states all the various other arguments against them and allows the reader to make up their own mind. His theories are fascinating, and his style is open-minded, always a good thing in my view.

Interesting, and fun - also a good book to read on the tube and get funny looks...
