2010 and Alleluia Files reviews
Dave put 2010 on last night and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I found 2001 to be interminable and intensely boring, apart from Hal, who was by far the most interesting aspect and whom I liked tremendously. So, I was glad to see him back in the sequel, which was more interesting overall because it set out to answer all the questions raised by the first one, and thus made a hell of a lot more sense. Seeing Roy Scheider makes me want to watch Seaquest again, though, which is probably not a good thing.
Book three of the Samaria series, The Alleluia Files, was even better than the first two, difficult as that was to believe. The characters were more interesting, the plot was less predictable and it dealt with the debate between religion and science in more depth. It ended too soon, though, just when revealing the truth was going to mean society changing drastically, and it didn't go into any detail as to how the world was going to be affected. But still, a very good book. There are two more in the series, but they are both set much earlier than the others, so the questions about where Samarian society go from here aren't going to be answered, which is rather annoying.
