On New Year's Eve, I played another game that was new to me - Windmill Valley.

The theme is growing tulips in The Netherlands and it has an interesting mechanic whereby the turns and overall lengthy of the game are determined by each player turning inter-connected cogs to varying degrees to allocate what actions are available to them.

Actions include obtaining and/or planting tulips, placing windmills, changing the action spots on the cogs, shipping tulips overseas, collecting helpers and taking on (end-game-points) contracts for customers.

It's definitely my kind of game, and I enjoyed it. I came last but it was pretty close across all the players and I was happy with what I managed to achieve on my personal game board by the end of the game. It had lots of interesting aspects, but it wasn't so great that I'd be clamouring to play it again or buy a copy.
