I enjoyed the other audiobook versions of Tasha Suri's books I've listened to, so I was looking forward to diving into The Jasmine Throne, which is a lengthy listen at nearly 20 hours long.

And I did give it a good six hours to really engage me...

I liked the worldbuilding, there were lots of layers to the history of the empire and the different characters, there were plenty of complex female protagonists and peripherals - and I had a certain amount of interest in where it might be going.

But - and I don't know if this was the leisurely tone of the narrator or the style of the prose - it somehow felt very remote and a bit dreary. It seemed to be taking a very long time to get anywhere, and it kept jumping around to different people and places when I really wanted to settle into one or two narrative and properly dig in.

Once I found myself avoiding doing the activities during which I would normally listen to an audiobook, I decided that was a sign I didn't want to persevere, so I'm afraid I gave up on it.
