The Marvels
We went to see the new Marvel movie on Friday night - and it was actually really good!
In recent years, these films and TV series seem to have fallen into one of two categories - a bit dreary and no fun, or too silly with no heart.
The Marvels combined the two - it was tons of fun but also had a strong emotional throughline - so a good combination that made it both enjoyable and satisfying.
Iman Vellani absolutely stole the show - she's so brilliantly engaging as Ms Marvel - though the development of the relationships between all three main protagonists was very well done, I thought.
The Flerkens (cats that spout horrifying tentacles and are much bigger on the inside) provided my favourite moment in the film, closely followed by a visit to a planet where the language is song.
It was a bit frenetic in places - but the fight scenes were very well choreographed and clever - and there were tons of great character interactions and poignant moments that kept it all grounded.
Highly entertaining all round!
