I've been really looking forward to listening to more by TJ Klune, after absolutely loving Under the Whispering Door last year - but The House in the Cerulean Sea really didn't do it for me, and I didn't finish it.

It might have been the narrator - not that he was bad in any way, it's just that the voices ascribed to the kids on the island were very cartoon-y. Or it might have been that the characters themselves were very cartoon-y. It just felt, despite the 40-year-old protagonist, very much like a kids' book - and the kind of kids' book I tend to find off-putting.

So, I certainly wouldn't say it's a bad book - just not one that appealed to me.
