Bugsy Malone

alobearTonight, we went to see a production of Bugsy Malone at the theatre at Alexandra Palace.
I'd never seen it before - and it was mostly really fun!
Aspects (particularly in the first half) were pretty terrible, but I guess they were kind of supposed to be?
A lot of the cast were obviously having tremendous fun, and quite a few of them were really excellent. There were some issues with enunciation - the broad New York accents and microphone enhancement didn't help - and one or two whose performance was marred by a lack of confidence. And the soloists were generally a bit difficult to hear over the backing singers.
The staging was great, most of the choreography was excellent, and the lighting for the fight on the car was very effective.
Overall, a very good and entertaining effort - and the second half really picked up. Definitely a fun night out.
