After the furore at the Oscars, I decided to watch the film Will Smith won for - King Richard. It was interesting, watching the younger years of Venus and Serena Williams, from the perspective of focusing on their father. It's always difficult to know how accurate such films might be, but this was definitely an excellent example of true events, crafted into a compelling story of the course of a couple of hours.

Richard was presented as a complex and layered person - I suspect some aspects of his parenting and personality were sugar-coated a bit, especially in the first half, but he certainly wasn't presented as being without flaws.

And the success of the Williams sisters certainly demonstrates how effective their journey to tennis superstardom was, regardless of any other considerations in terms of their upbringing.

I really enjoyed the film overall.
