Reincarnation Blues
Nov. 6th, 2020 05:25 pmReincarnation Blues by Michael Poore tells the story of Milo, the oldest soul in existence, who is down to only three of four of his allotted 10,000 lives. He's supposed to be working to gain perfection, so he can pass through the door into the Oversoul. But he's in love with one of the manifestations of Death he meets up with between lives.
The book is very well put together, moving backwards and forwards through time to show snippets, chapters or whole arcs of various of Milo's lives (they don't progress in chronological time - sometimes he is born far into the future and sometimes far back in the past) and charting the progress of his relationship with Suzie (the death spirit) in the beyond after each time he dies.
It's an interesting book, though there are several sections that are extremely unpleasant, and the fragmented nature of the narrative makes it difficult to connect to the story in some ways. I enjoyed it overall, but it didn't blow me away, and it rather fizzled out in the end, instead of reaching some kind of grand conclusion - but that may well have been the point.
