The Last Colony by John Scalzi is the third in the Old Man's War series, and probably my favourite so far. Several of the characters from the first two books are brought together to form a family on a new colony, but things get tricky when they are subject to complicated galactic conflicts.

I've always been a fan of the sci-fi trope where a group of people are forced to build a new home on a strange planet with few resources and no support, and this is a good example of that. I particularly like the way it explores politics on varying levels - from individual to family to colony to galaxy. I like the characters, and the plot goes in some interesting directions (though there are a couple of things that disappear without being resolved).

Overall, a fun listen with a good narrator.
