I read On Writing fairly soon after it came out, and it was amazing. I tried to reread it last year and... yeah. Underwhelmed. As you say--what he imparts is now part of so much other writing advice literature that going back to the source feels a little tired.
Still, at least you can cross it off your Essential Writing Books list? XD
