Being ill sucks.

But, it does mean I watch more movies...

Despite Chris Evans, Jamie Bell, Tilda Swinton, John Hurt and Ed Harris - Snowpiercer was awful.  So, so bad.  Worst movie I've seen in quite some time.  Some of the actors were really trying to sell it, others were going the cartoon route - one or the other across the board might have helped, but the combo just made it even more jarring.  I could have gone with the ridiculous premise, if the execution had been skilful, or the ending in any way made sense.  Perhaps the long and impassioned speech by the Japanese guy at the end gave it all meaning, but I didn't have subtitles on the version I was watching, so I have no idea what he said - and I can't imagine it would really have helped.  Bad, bad, bad.

Lucy, on the other hand, wasn't bad - though I'm not sure it was particularly good, either.  It wasn't as interesting or as much fun as I was expecting.  It was split between wibbly existential bobbins, and ridiculous gun-fest, which isn't necessarily a terrible combination, and it had some good moments here and there, but it didn't really pull me in and engage me, and the ending felt like a bit of a cop-out.

The Hundred Foot Journey also wasn't stellar, but it went to some interesting places, and the path of the plot wasn't as predictable as I had expected.  I particularly liked the development of the relationship between the older characters, which gave the story more depth and interest than it would have had otherwise.  It felt a little long, but I mostly enjoyed it.

And on the book front, I finished listening to Summer Knight, the next Dresden book.  This was definitely my favourite in the series so far.  Lots going on, some great peripheral characters, and an intriguing plot.  I liked the wider cast - Dresden can get a bit dreary when he's on his own, so it was good to have him supported by some colourful characters.  I particularly loved Toot Toot and his pixie brigade, and the conflict of the changelings added an interesting and poignant dimension.  The plot was pacy, the action exciting, and the world very well drawn as a whole.  Good stuff.
