This was a really good evening out last night.

Frank Turner has apparently written a book (who knew?) and was promoting it by doing a tour of the UK.  He and a journalist did a sort of free form interview for a bit, then he took questions, and then he did a short acoustic set, which was rather fabulous.

He played my favourite of his songs - The Journey of the Magi - which he doesn't usually do live, so that was aweseome.  There were only about 500 people there, and we sat up high along the edge of the room, so we had a great view and it felt quite intimate.  Mr Turner doesn't hold back (singing or playing) when doing acoustic, so the music was pretty visceral, and the stories he told from the book were really funny - even if nearly all of them involved him being totally wasted.

Best of all, though, was Dave's report of overhearing a quite refined older lady talking to her friend in the interval, saying, "I didn't expect him to swear quite *that* much."

The audience was indeed very varied - he does seem to appeal to a wide range of people - but everyone seemed to have a good time, us included.
