Rise Against gig - O2 Brixton - Monday 10 November:
It's been a while since I've been to a live gig in London - this once wasn't the best I've ever attended, but it certainly wasn't the worst, either. I do tend to find the balance doesn't work very well for me at indoor gigs, for some reason. As usual, the bass was way too loud, and I had difficulty making out the singer's voice, which was detrimental to enjoyment of the music. The acoustic bit towards the end was particularly good, though. What really stood out was the crowd - they were so polite! They were overwhelmingly white, mostly mid-twenties, often bespectacled, and very preppy in terms of clothing - and obviously very well brought up!

Jump - Peacock Theatre - Tuesday 11 November:
Dave and I saw this show *mumble* years ago and were delighted that it was back in London again, if only for a very short time. We jumped at the chance (see what I did there?) to grab some tickets and introduce Simon and James to the show. It was exactly the same as last time, but this was no bad thing - very impressive martial arts and acrobatics combined with very silly humour. Highly entertaining - and also short, which I always appreciate on a week night.

Draughts Launch Party - Haggerston - Friday 14 November:
So, the new board games cafe in Haggerston is finally open, and Dave and I got to go to the launch party on Friday night. It's not the best location, nor in fact the best venue in the world - but they've done a lot with the space, and it does what it says on the can. There are many, many games on offer, and lots of sensibly sized tables to play them on. The Games Gurus are keen and knowledgeable, the bar staff less so. The menu is limited but the sandwich I had was really, really good. And they stock green tea, which they serve in large mugs, which is a bonus for me. The journey from work is short and easy, and it actually didn't take as long to get home as I had thought. So, overall, a positive start to what I hope will be a lengthy relationship with the cafe. Now, I just have to find the time to go back!

I played three games over the course of the evening:

Province - 2-player, short, worker placement - interesting dynamic, and scope for repeat game play. I won by one point.

Carcassonne - 5-player, weird not to be on my phone screen for a change, two players completely new to the game. I came last by some margin!

Five Tribes - 3-player, different style to most games I know, Dave likes it a lot - basically Mancala but with camels (sort of). I won by quite a few points - and I see this as a bad sign for the game, since I wasn't really paying attention or working on any kind of strategy, so I really should have been stomped all over.
