First review of 2025 - and it's a stinker!
Jan. 2nd, 2025 10:04 amYesterday, we played Gamer Over! which is a murder mystery in a box - and it was terrible! It had the usual format of each player getting an assigned character with background, various secrets, information about connection to the victim, and whether or not they were the murderer. The game was then structured around clues being given out and revealed, with the players discussing everything and eventually making accusations.
I was totally taken in by the red herring solution to the crime - which I still think was entirely fair enough, since there was almost no evidence provided that would have led any of us to the real murderer. Plus, in the the case of both potential killers, there was absolutely terrible mental health representation, which I found borderline offensive. Add to that, there were multiple errors in the text of some of the cards, which misnamed several characters and led to a great deal of confusion and mistakes being made regarding who was involved in which aspects of the story.
Bad writing, bad construction, bad quality control - bad all round!
