This week, I played a very cute little computer game called Alba: A Wildlife Adventure.

In it, you play a young girl named Alba, visiting her grandparents on an island for the summer fiesta. On arrival, you discover the mayor has made a deal with a development company to build a luxury hotel on the wildlife reserve, so you form a wildlife activism organisation with your friend, Ines, to save the reserve!

There's a very clear to-do list every day and the game leads you through all the main story points very easily. But there are also 'collection' tasks across the island - finding and photographing all the different types of birds and animals on the island, picking up all the litter, saving animals from various environmental problems, collecting petition signatures, fixing signs/picnic tables/bridges/lookouts all over the place, etc, etc.

It's all very sweet and gently fun - though catching all the birds on camera was very tricky (I actually failed to find ten out of all the available creatures), so completing absolutely everything proved beyond me (though you do have the opportunity to travel around on the last day to do anything you've missed with no time limit).

It was fun and mostly relaxing, with a good message for kids - and it didn't wholly ignore the debate about whether a hotel might be good for the island in providing jobs and promoting tourism.

Cute and pretty simple, but very satisfying (I loved getting hearts over every bin when I picked up all the litter) and a good way to teach kids about conservation.
