Homecoming

I've enjoyed most of the Kate Morton books I've read, and Homecoming was recommended to me, so I got it out of the library.

I was engaged by the story immediately and very much liked the character of Jess in the 2018 storyline.

I figured out one of the main mysteries very early, but that didn't bother me that much, because I was still intrigued to know how it all came about, back in the 1960 storyline.

But then came the long extracts from a (fictional) nonfiction book within the main narrative, and I lost interest quite quickly. I wanted to read a pacy, exciting, fictional narrative, not have to wade through long chapters of pseudo-nonfiction that felt stilted and included lots of over-wrought detail the (fictional) author would have had to make up...

So, I have to admit I skimmed to the end to find out the answers to all the questions - and found the reveal very upsetting...

I'm glad I didn't persevere with reading the whole narrative in depth and I was disappointed with the way the book is put together.

But I know other people who have loved this book.
