An Ancient Peace
Jan. 23rd, 2024 08:04 pmI discovered Tanya Huff some time ago but my experiences of her different book series have been a bit hit and miss.
But this first instalment of the Peacekeepers series - An Ancient Peace - was a definite hit!
It's about a band of misfit space mercenaries, who do off-the-books jobs for the military. Several of them are ex-space-marines, including their leader, Torin, which leads to some interesting interactions both with their employers and within the team.
The characteristics of the different alien races were really interesting, I loved all the different inter-relationships between the team members, all the characters were distinct and engaging - and there were some great ethical questions posed by the nature of the task they were assigned at the start of the book.
It was an awesome military space opera / mercenary team / inter-planetary heist story, and I very much look forward to listening to the rest of the series.
