Border Riding
Jan. 3rd, 2024 01:27 pmBorder Riding is a co-operative storytelling and map-making game, whereby a group of players collaborate to build a society and draw a map of their territory that changes over the course of 100 years.
Each round, one person selects an aspect of the worldbuilding to expand upon (eg tradition, nature, outsiders, festival) and the rulebook provides a set of prompts for discussion. The players then talk about what might happen to their society and make decisions as to how this will affect the map. A number of years then passes (defined by a die roll) and the next player chooses another aspect to explore.
Obviously, this kind of game (as in fact with most types of games) depends a lot on the people in the group. I only came in for the second half, and mostly observed rather than taking part, but it was very interesting and occasionally a lot of fun.
