Sea Girls and Spider People
The Girl From The Sea by Molly Knox Ostertag is a graphic novel about a teenage girl coming into her sexual identity after meeting and kissing a kelpie. It's a sweet story with some exciting ups and downs, which I enjoyed a lot, even though the ending was bittersweet. I liked the art style a lot, as well as the different relationship dynamics in the protagonist's life.
Last night, we went to see Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse, which was largely really, really good. My main problem with it was that the first ten minutes was so fantastic, it made me a little disappointed with the rest of the film, even though that was really good too! The use of colour and texture in the animation style added so much to the emotive nature of the story - it was funny and sad and exciting and tense. My other problem was that it was a bit too long - and then stopped on a cliffhanger, so we have to wait until next year to find out what happens. Generally highly recommended, though.
