Lighter Than My Shadow
May. 28th, 2023 10:14 amLighter Than My Shadow by Katie Green is a graphic memoir about a young woman's struggle with an eating disorder. It's beautifully put together in a very effective way, which portrays all the terrible aspects of dealing with serious difficulties with food and all the baggage and mental health issues that go along with it.
Aspects of the story were quite triggering for me, but I also felt a very deep connection to the protagonist in some ways, even though our stories are very different. I thought about giving up on the book a couple of times, but I had to see it through to the end - and even though I wanted everything to turn out rainbows and unicorns, I'm very glad it was clear there are no easy answers.
A powerful book, hard to take in places, but important and very well done.
