Sauscharf

On Wednesday, we met up with a couple of gaming friends in town and they introduced us to Sauscharf, a card collecting game, with a pasted-on theme of making chili sauce.

I want to say I didn't quite manage to grasp how it all worked - though I think the other players might frown at me, since I comprehensively crushed them all, twice in a row! But I really don't know how I did it!

The mechanics are that you bid to establish the order in which players get to either take sets of chilis from the 'shop' or hand sets of chilis in to collect point-scoring sauce cards.

And it seemed very dependent a) on the initial hand you were dealt (which determined whether or not you could then bid high enough to get the cards you needed to improve you hand for making sauce later) and b) what cards were dealt into the 'shop' (which determined whether or not you could boost your initial hand enough to be able to take the highest point-scoring cards).

I don't know if I was just incredibly lucky or incredibly intuitive in some way - but I honestly didn't feel like I knew what I was doing and, as I said, I won by a big margin in both games we played.

Soooo.... Not sure I'd be in a major rush to play again, but happy to give it a go if it happens to be around...
