Madame Burova
Jan. 21st, 2023 03:55 pmI finished my fourth reading retreat book on the train home!
Madame Burova by Ruth Hogan was a really fun read. It's about a collection of quirky but still believable characters, most of whom work at a Brighton holiday resort in the 1970s, focusing on the title character, who reads tarot cards. Imelda Burova seems to have a real psychic gift, but it's handled quite softly, in a way that appealed to me, rather than being offputting. The split timeline worked really well, I loved all the dogs, the various inter-relationships were well-drawn, and the conclusion was satisfyingly upbeat. A really fun read all round.
