I didn't know what Lightyear was, going in - other than being somehow related to the Buzz Lightyear character from Toy Story. What I got was an awesome space adeventure about failing up, found family, and learning that mistakes can sometimes lead to unexpectedly positive results.
As a fictional film that supposedly came out prior to 1995, it's completely unrealistic that there would be a gay, black, female commander... However, that aside, I loved the characters and that, weirdly, I think Buzz was the only white guy in the whole film. And Sox the robot cat - yay!!
I wasn't fantastically keen on the bad guy reveal when it happened, but I came round to it when it became obvious how it would feed into the main lesson Buzz had to learn over the arc of the story.
Overall, it was great! Really exciting, really funny, really emotive. Dave and I frequently made the same reaction noises at the same time, which was amusing. Highly recommended!
