Best of Enemies - play
Jan. 16th, 2022 04:03 pmYesterday, we took a trip into London to see Best of Enemies at the Young Vic. It was about two commentators who were invited to conduct debates around the political conventions in the US in 1968. Given the subject matter of two people sitting in chairs and discussing politics, I was impressed by how energetic and dynamic the staging of the play was. Lots of different characters were included, the sets were switched about very effectively to denote different locations, the buildup to the climax was done very well, and all the acting was excellent.
There was good use of historical footage to frame the events being portrayed, the presentation of the two protagonists was layered and interesting, and the context of their debates was provided in a lot of detail. I really enjoyed the play and would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in US politics in the 1960s.
