I only played one new game at our New Year celebration this year - Calico.
It combines several things I usually like in games - making patterns/fitting pieces together on a board and trying to achieve multiple different objectives.
The theme is that you're making a quilt, and there are several different cats you need to please, who like different patterns. There are also extra points for certain combinations of colours and patterns on certain parts of the board, as well as runs of matching colours.
So, there's a lot to pay attention to and try and keep track of! I did well enough to please the middle cat a few times, and also obtain the lower point level of the board-placement objectives, so I was happy enough with my performance for a first try.
But it's really hard to do well! I'd happily give it another go, but it's not one I'm keen enough to seek out in future.
