Unfinished Books
Dec. 13th, 2020 09:42 amIn the interests of full disclosure, there are several books I've failed to finish over the last couple of months, so I thought I would record them here:
Uncertain Magic by Laura Kinsale - could not handle the infantilisation of the protagonist by the love interest
The Virgin in the Garden by AS Byatt - I normally got to AS Byatt for deeply involving and emotive character arcs - but, by 50 pages in, very little had happened, some of what had happened was horribly unpleasant and all of the characters were really unlikeable
Stand on Zanzibar by John Brunner - this one really interested me, but the futuristic jargon was so seamlessly incorporated into the text as to make it basically unintelligible
The Constant Rabbit by Jasper Fforde - the premise of this book sounded great, but I forgot that I don't get on with Fforde's style at all
The Stars Are Legion by Kameron Hurley - I tried really hard with this one, but found it really hard to get a hold of; by 80 pages in I still had no idea what was going on and couldn't connect to any of the characters, so gave up
I also recently read By Its Cover by Donna Leon, for Family Book Club - and that I did finish (though it wasn't really my cup of tea)!
