I just finished listening to the audiobook version of I'm Thinking Of Ending Things by Ian Reid. Various people I know had been talking about it and recommending it for a while, and then it turned up as the next subject of a reviews podcast I like, so I decided to go for it and give it a listen.
I'm aware that it's had a lot of very good reviews and there are a lot of people who really like it - but it didn't really do it for me at all. I found the buildup quite tedious, the climax painfully drawn out, and the ultimate conclusion very disappointing in how cliched it was.
I was also annoyed that the main hook, as described in the Amazon blurb, didn't happen until 80% of the way through, which rather ruined any suspense.
But that's just me. If you haven't already come across this kind of story, it's likely to prove unexpected and thrilling. But I've seen it before - a lot - and I don't feel like this particular version adds anything new.
*shrug*
