A World of Wisdom
Aug. 7th, 2018 09:35 pmThis marvellous little book by James Chapman explores common sayings and their various equivalent in other countries, all accompanied by brilliant illustrations. I would highly recommend taking a look, as it has some fascinating, as well as weird and wonderful bits of information, which shed light on different cultures and how different people see things.
For example, where we might say, "Once bitten, twice shy" - in Brazil, "A dog bitten by a snake is afraid of sausages!"
Various works by the same author can be found at http://www.soundimals.com/ - I know him best for his cartoons about how different noises are represented in text in different languages - eg animal sounds, sneezes, etc.
