Ack! Forgot about Iron Man 3
Apr. 28th, 2013 11:10 amWe went to see Iron Man 3 yesterday. I stood in the lobby of the cinema and thought to myself, "What the hell am I doing here? I didn't like the first one, and I thought the second one was rubbish, so why would I want to see the third one?" I'm a total sucker for superhero movies - I fall for the Empire hype every time, and can't help continually hoping one day I'll find a good one. Don't get me wrong - there have been some - X-Men 1 and 2, Avengers Assemble, ummmm.... No, I'm being unfair - Captain America wasn't bad, and X-Men: First Class had its moments. Oh, and I'm about the only person in the world who thought Ang Lee's Hulk was any good. But, for the most part, superhero movies are just a disappointment.
However, Iron Man 3 fell firmly into the "not bad at all" camp. It dragged a bit in places, but overall it was pretty funny, quite exciting, had some great character stuff, mostly very good writing, and a satisfyingly turn-cliche-on-its-head climax. What really made it worth watching was the fact that 80% of the time, Tony Stark was without his suit, and had to actually deal with situations without relying on its protection (which was the whole point of the film and was very well done). So, not a patch on Avengers, but really not bad at all. Plus, the post-credits sequence really funny (yay for awesome cameos!).
