Guess Who's Coming To Dinner review
Apr. 11th, 2009 09:26 amThis week's DVD rental was Guess Who's Coming To Dinner, requested months ago by Dave.
It was both better than and different to what I'd expected, though I have to admit I don't think I could clearly articulate what I was expecting. It was all much more civilised than I'd thought it would be - most of the characters were very calm and rational throughout the whole thing, and the presentation of the relationship between Joanna and John was very sweet.
Dave disagrees, but I thought it was well acted by everyone involved, and the writing was mostly excellent - especially Spencer Tracy's long conclusionary speech at the end. That man really knows how to pontificate! Also, Sidney Poitier was young, cute, and very appealing - all things I don't usually associate with him, so it was fun to see him in this role.
