We had nine in our lesson today, which was too many, but I thought Matt handled teaching such a large class quite well. I was on Molly, a horse I like in spite of her idiosyncracies. She stopped dead and tried her reversing trick four times, and tried to run away with me twice, so I thought that was a pretty good lesson for her!

When it came time to canter, Matt had us all line up at one end of the school and do the canter exercise in turn, while the other horses stayed in halt. Given the number of horses in the lesson, this was probably the only way to handle this, but it's really not a good idea, as the horses get bored standing still and tend to over-compensate when their turn comes. There were four or five instances of cantering way too fast, way too soon as a result, but luckily no accidents.
