War and Peace review
Jan. 24th, 2007 07:12 pmThe first volume of War and Peace was excellent. The humour and characterisation were almost Austen-esque and I was very pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable it was.
I have to admit, though, that my interest did wane in the second volume, and I didn't think the main characters ended up with the right people at all.
Initially, I liked the fact that my opinions of the protagonists changed as they demonstrated their flaws or good qualities but, by the end, I didn't really care about any of those left alive.
It's still incredibly well written (and translated) and worth reading if you like nineteenth century soap opera!
