Film Catch-up
Jan. 14th, 2007 03:05 pmI decided at New Year that I'm going to do reviews for all the books I read and all the films I watch this year. Book reviews are going well, but I've fallen behind already on films.
My last two rental DVDs were:
Kinky Boots - fun, but nothing special. It's a familiar format and pleasant in its familiarity but I didn't think there was anything in it to make it stand out.
The Land Girls - SPOILERS - I enjoyed the first half of this (Rachel Weisz is particularly entertaining) but the second half left a very great deal to be desired. Two of the main characters rather randomly discovered undying love for one another (which made absolutely no sense to me) but then the girl went back to her fiance out of a misplaced sense of honour and they both ended up miserable. Not what I want out of a film, really.

The Crucible review
Jan. 14th, 2007 08:53 pmYou can always trust good old Arthur Miller to make your Slumpie turn in your stomach. Fantastic acting, and a sickeningly effective portrayal of mob behaviour, but not one for repeat viewings of a Sunday afternoon.
